Numerical Investigation of the Scaling Effects for a Point Absorber

In order to design and evaluate the behaviour of a numerically optimised wave energy converter (WEC), recommended procedure is initially study small scale models in controlled laboratory conditions then progress further up until full-scale reached. At any point, an important step correct selection theory model dynamical WEC. Most authors recommend based on dimensional parameters, which usually does not consider scale. this work, effects for point absorber are studied numerical simulations three different regular waves conditions. Furthermore, theories used simulate two scales 1:1 1:50. The WEC-wave interaction modelled by using tank implemented ANSYS-Fluent with floating object representing Results show that normalised difference between 1:50 models, keeping same fluctuate 30% 58% WEC heave motion wrong can lead differences 138% variable. It also found limits use depends particular range applicability be extended.
